Night Photography / by Kiley Melicker

The Northern Lights were supposed to be visible North East of Portland last Friday night. Brandon and I drove east on the Columbia Gorge to see what we could see. There were cars parked all over the place and traffic after midnight. We found a place to park and stared at the sky for a good hour. To pass the time, I brought my DSLR to test out some night shots. We didn't see the Northern Lights - maybe we weren't far away enough from the city, the moon was too bright, or the lights just weren't bright enough - but I did get some eerie night shots. It was really windy out so the trees are a blur. Nothing spectacular, but it was a fun experiment.

Look, the Big Dipper in the sky!
